Why choose me?

Well firstly, I have to point out that I’m not an editor or an academically trained creative writer. My grammar isn’t spot on and I won’t discuss pronouns and adverbs because that’s not how I roll. If that’s what you want, I’m not your people. If you want a more holistic approach from a children’s book consultant, I can help with that.

I’ve spent the past 10 years reading, studying, illustrating, and writing children’s books. It’s fair to say that they’re a huge part of my life. I’ve worked on over 80 of them with international publishers including Disney, Macmillan, Ladybird and Usborne. I’ve written children’s educational reading books with set reading levels, pop-up books, jigsaws and art prints. Pop my name into Google/Amazon and you’ll see some of the books I’ve worked on and publishers I work with. To see the rest, look at some international bookseller sites and you’ll find me there too.

I’m passionate about diversity and inclusion, I will help spot sensitivity issues and recommend radical children’s literature books that use meta-fictive devices and hypertextual references, I can even tell you about how you can interpret pictures drawn by visually impaired people. We can discuss concerns about translation issues, appropriation, traditional publishing, self-publishing, or anything else.  I can recommend reading material, organisations and specialists, art courses that may help you, and liaise with your illustrators to help you get the best out of their skills.

We can discuss costing your book, printing, laying it out – these are things I can do. Basically, I can help you to present your story in the best way possible and equip you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to seek out the right publishers. We can talk about whether self publishing is the best option for you. What I can’t do is write, illustrate, or place it for you.

I thought you were an author/illustrator?

You thought right, my friend. My agent arranges more than enough freelance work for me though; my schedule is booked up to 12 months in advance. However, I can forward you a list of trusted colleagues with different price points if that’s what you want. I’m offering you the benefit of my experience, technical and problem solving skills, and years of research.
